How we help school PTAs

Help your child. Help their school's PTA.

We're planning to give £5 of every qualifying £19.99 Book Monsters purchase to a participating state school's PTA. Families pay the normal price, nothing extra. Parents choose their school when they buy, and there's nothing for the school to buy, run or teach.

Little monsters. Big difference.

How the numbers add up

£19.99

One-off family purchase. No subscription.

£5

of that £19.99 goes to your school's PTA. Nothing extra to pay.

£150

For their school's PTA, if just one class of 30 families joins in

We believe reading should be fun, and that every school deserves a little extra support. The money goes to the PTA, to spend on whatever helps their school most, from new books to playground equipment and those little extras that make school life special.

How it will work

Simple for parents. Simple for PTAs.

For parents

  1. 1Choose your child's school when you buy The Book Monsters.
  2. 2School not listed yet? Nominate it, and we'll invite their PTA to join.
  3. 3£5 of the £19.99 you pay goes to their PTA. It costs you nothing extra.

For PTAs

  1. 1Get in touch, and we'll set up your school's own code and link.
  2. 2Share it with parents through your PTA's newsletter or social media. For school channels, check with your school first.
  3. 3We pay your PTA £5 out of every qualifying £19.99 purchase. We'll agree the details with you in writing first.

No extra cost to parents. No extra work for teachers.

The Book Monsters circle

And it helps your child too

This isn't a raffle ticket or another box of biscuits. Every question in the app practises a reading skill children learn at primary school, so the money for their school's PTA comes from something that helps them read.

  1. 1

    Your child reads

and the monsters make it fun

  2. 2

    They practise

the reading skills they learn at school

  3. 3

    Their school's PTA gets £5

out of every £19.99, not on top (coming soon)

  4. 4

    More for every child

the PTA spends it on things like new books

Questions schools ask

Does it cost the school anything?

No. Families buy The Book Monsters for themselves at the normal £19.99, and £5 of that goes to the school's PTA.

Do teachers have to use it in class?

No. It's for children to use at home. There's nothing for the school to buy, run or teach.

Which schools can join?

We're starting with state schools in England that have a PTA or friends' association. The app is for children aged about 7 to 11, so it suits primary and junior schools best.

Does it replace our reading log?

No. Keep your school's reading log. The Book Monsters is a fun extra for home.

Does our PTA need to sign anything?

Yes, a short written agreement before we start. It sets out which purchases count, how much your PTA gets and when we pay. The law requires one when a PTA is a charity, and we'll have one with every PTA.

How will we know how much we've raised?

We'll tell each PTA how much it has raised, and keep a running total for all school PTAs on this page.

When does it start?

We're setting it up with our first school PTAs now. Get in touch and we'll let you know as soon as your school's PTA can join.

Are you part of a PTA?

We'd love to help your PTA raise money for your school.
